Las Vegas is indoors most of the time, so the weather matters less than you might think — until you step outside at 3 pm in July. What really moves your trip is the calendar of conventions and big events, which can double hotel rates overnight, and whether you plan to drive out to Red Rock, Valley of Fire or the national parks.

Why the price changes more than the weather

Vegas hotels price by demand: a quiet Tuesday in August can cost a fraction of a Saturday during a convention. Before you fix dates, look at the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority calendar and avoid the biggest shows. Remember the resort fee, added per night on top of the room rate — our Las Vegas guide explains it, and our hotel picks show where to stay.

The verdict

Best month

April & October

Warm enough for the pool, cool enough to walk the Strip and hike Red Rock or Valley of Fire. Both are good months to start a road trip to Zion or the Grand Canyon.

Avoid

July

The hottest month, with afternoon highs averaging over 100°F (38°C) and nights barely cooling. Pools are great; anything outdoors after 10 am is not.
