We would book it for a food-focused Napa weekend: Yountville's restaurants and several tasting rooms are a walk away, and the hotel lends bicycles for the vineyards. Its sustainable design is a real point of difference, not a slogan.

Why we picked it

We would book it for the Calistoga version of Napa: mornings in the mineral pools, a mud bath in the afternoon and dinner on foot in town. The retro motel rooms keep the prices calmer than the big estates, the bikes are free, and families get bunk rooms. It is the valley's original wellness address, with a sense of humor.
